Asbestos Remediation - A Primer
Asbestos abatement, sometimes called asbestos remediation, is needed when asbestos based materials pose a hazard to individuals. Asbestos can be found in older building materials (generally 1980 and earlier), especially certain flooring and pipe wraps. Generally, asbestos is not a cause for concern unless disturbed, which is why it becomes an issue during disaster restoration, demolition or renovation. You can find more information about asbestos on the Government of Canada website, Health Risks of Asbestos.

Prior to Renovating an Older Building - Commercial or Residential
If your company's building or home is is undergoing a renovation or demolition of any kind and you have an older building, you should definitely know what is in your walls and ceilings before doing so. You could be putting both the contractors as well as anyone still working within that environment in danger and exposing yourself to liability.
ServiceMaster can help you test the building materials prior to demolition, and if asbestos is present, can guide you in the best approach for remediating the situation. Be sure that anyone you hire for asbestos testing and abatement is appropriately certified and trained.
